Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • ⅓ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbs. instant yeast
  • 4 ¾ cups Heritage Turkey Red whole wheat flour

Directions

  1. Wisk together water, oil, honey, salt, and the egg in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add in 2 cups flour and mix until just incorporated.
  3. Add yeast and the remaining 2 ¾ cups flour and mix into a rough dough.
  4. Knead with a dough hook until smooth for approximately 8-10 minutes. Dough will be stickier than traditional flour doughs.
  5. Cover dough and let rise until doubled.
  6. Shape dough into 16-20 small rolls and place two inches apart on a lined cookie sheet.
  7. Let rolls rise again until doubled.
  8. Bake rolls for 12-14 minutes at 375 degrees.
